Featured Teams: SkutGarage

Photos by: Alden "Boris" Avergonzado

Underbone Tuner was able to interview Jed Ko of SkutGarage a Team that has
been making waves on the Circuit with their dominating performance on the open automatic categories.

This is how it went.

1. Can you tell us more about Skut Garage? how did you guys get started? can
you give us a brief history of skut garage?

It started with our hobby in scooter collection. While drinking with friends the
night before the OZR race in danao last year we decided to join the race in the
morning. With our basic knowledge about scooter tuning we decided to build a bike
that night for the race (a 90cc Honda Dio). People were laughing at our scooter
competing against underbones, luckily we won second place on Danao local's
category. We were not really serious about it but just joined the race for fun.
This then inspired us to form a group. SKUTGARAGE

2. Where is your club or race team based? Who are the officers? Who founded it?

We are based in Danao City. It is founded by Jed Ko, Joma "Daloy" Ko and our
rider Mark "Atchong" Capoy.

3. SkutGarage has dominated all scooter categories, what makes you different from
the rest of the teams? What is the x-factor that makes skutgarage exceed above the
rest?

Maybe because we join races just for fun, no pressure on winning. Winning the race
is the very last thing on our mind. I think we also have a competitive rider.

4.what are your future plans? Do you plan to field in more riders? Do you plan to venture in the underbone categories?

For now, we have a new rider (Gilbert "bitog" Miro) for the automatic class,
he won 2nd place in Danao Locals Category, 5th place on Mixed Automatic Open.
Hopefully next year we will give underbone category a try.

5. Can you share some advise to the readers about how to be successful in scooter/underbone racing?

Take one step at a time, enjoy what you are doing, have fun and learn from the experts.

6. Who are your sponsors that you would like to thank?

Our biggest sponsor are my parents, Bagwis Game Farm,Pauls Cellshop,1337 Internet
and Gaming, Sweet Inn Drive. And Special thanks to Mr. Bobby Mencias of BMR.

7. Any message you can give to underbone tuner magazine?

Thank you to Underbone tuner magazine, for supporting the local underbone/racing
scene, again,THANK YOU and MORE POWER!!!!

Featured Teams: Team CYRUS Racing
By: Arnel B. Santos-Ynigo

I was able to catch-up with this young privateer team at practice. Early on you could
see their determination, discipline and their constant drive to improve. Judging from
their lap times it looks like a new bench mark will be set for beginner 110 and 125.
Its gonna be quite an interesting battle to watch when this guys mix it up with Team
Motofix the defending champs of the 2nd leg.

I was able to interview their President Keken Cabahug who is also their ace rider, this is how it went.

1. UT: How did you get started with circuit racing? What was your racing background?
KC: Actually this is my 1st time to participate in underbone circuit racing, watching
the 1st and 2nd leg really inspired me to give it a try. Cyrus Racing team has a
drag racing background so basically we are still beginners in this sport.

2. UT: What categories do you plan to participate?
KC: We have 5 riders for CYRUS Race team, all of us will be joining
Beginner 110 & 125. There is also a possibility that we will
have 1 entry for Novice Open.

3. UT: For the 3rd leg what preparations did you make? How long have you been practicing?
KC: Our team has been practicing for a month almost everyday. Our preparations
were basically to get very familiar with the track because all of our riders have
drag racing background and we are new to this concept. We started preparing early
we started right away after the 2nd leg, I bought an X1 and had it broken in during
our ride to bogo fiesta. so far I have crashed 5 times already at practice but I think
its all part of the sport.

4. UT: Can you give us a brief introduction about your club?
KC: CYRUS basically means Cebu Young Riders United Society, it started 1989 when yamaha chappy's
were the IN bike. our club is mostly involved
with Drag Racing, but when underbone circuit racing came out we decided to give it a try.
we are also involved in motorcades, bike shows and out of town tours.

5. UT: What is you game plan for the 3rd leg?
KC: Actually all I plan to do is just enjoy the race. Ride safely, get a feel of things on the
track but I will do my best to win.

6. UT: Do you have any sponsors that you would like to thank?
KC: CYRUS race team would like to thank our generous sponsors

Meet Team MAC, an Interview with Race Team Manager Mr. Arber Armobit

Photobucket

Underbone Tuner was able to interview the Race Team Manager of Team MAC Mr. Arber Armobit.Team MAC a team that has been very consistent in the race and has always finished within the top 3. Mr. Armobit shares some info regarding the success of his team.

1.) UT: Can you give us a brief history about Team MAC? How did it begin? what activities are you known for? Where are you based?
Team MAC started with my self and Ramon Brignas our team mechanic, we built an experimental Crypton R engine about two years ago. After successfully building the engine, we saw the potential of our research. We came up with an endurance engine that may win any moped or underbone races, drag or circuit racing. After dozen of trails and research, we decided to make a racing team, then TEAM MAC was born. First activity we participated was the OZR First leg last march 30, 2008. second, was the Mandaue City Drag Race Mayors Cup, the last was the OZR 2nd leg last May 18, 2008. from day one, even if we didnt win in any races before. We earned good knowledge and result from our past activities. Right now were developing engines that can run in normal streets, drag race, and circuit at the same time. we call it “THE TEAM MAC RACING PERFORMANCE ENGINE” We frequently hang out at Norkis Lapu-lapu branch on week days.

2.) UT: Team MAC has been very consistent in the race and has always finished within the top 3, what is the secret to your success?
Thorough preparation, discipline, research, testing and a lot of hard practice.

3.) UT: Your riders Lyndon Requilme ( 2nd ), Elte Adel Sanchez ( 5th ) and Soreno Amsterdam (5th ) made a big splash on their first outing on the 2nd leg what preparations did your team make to create such an impact?
In the beginners category. Robbie Neil Enriquez trained all the riders of Team Mac to understand the racing line, and how to survive a circuit race for multiple laps and more hard practice .Which gives us good result for our riders for their very first attempt. My drag race rider Lyndon took 2nd place in his category after breath taking battle against the other team riders. Rider Elje took 5th place after starting way back on the grid.

4.) UT: Your Rider for the Novice Open Robbie Enriquez has made a formidable progress on the 2nd leg, from 5th place making a big leap to 3rd. What special preparations did you make? What things did you do differently this time around?
In the Novice open category. Our team mechanic did a good job with Robbie’s sniper that gave him the extra push he needed to get the 3rd place. With rider Amsterdam, he made a good result from his hard practice, even though he had multiple hard crash during practice, he drove our experimental drag high performance engine Crypton R to circuit race and took 5th place victory for the first attempt.

5.) UT: Does your team have plans of joining the expert open?
Yes! That’s the goal for my rider Robbie.

6.) UT: What are your plans for the 3rd leg? Can you share what aspects of your game plan you are going to adjust?
More practice, and we have push it much harder to the limit.

7.) UT: What advice can you give to aspiring teams who want to be successfull in cebu underbone circuit racing?
Discipline and more time in circuit and practice. And as a team manager provide a moral support and advice clean and safe racing style to all the riders participating.

8.) UT: If you can describe underbone tuning in one word what would it be?
Challenging

Thank you very much Mr. Arber Armobit for taking time with underbone tuner. We hope for your continued success in Cebu Underbone Circuit Racing Scene.More Power to Team MAC.
