Honda CB110 Scrambler by Tuba Garage

 For this week we are featuring one of the latest builds from "Tuba Garage" the breakout builders from Talisay City Cebu. "Tuba Garage" made their debut back in 2018 at the 1st Inside Racing Bikefest "Cebu Biker Builds" held at SM City Cebu.

The base bike for this Scrambler project is the Honda CB 110. Originally this motorcycle model is known as the Honda CB Twister a 110cc standard motorcycle produced by Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI). This model has been discontinued in India but it was succeeded by the Honda Livo model. Currently it is known as the Honda CB 110 in Colombia and the Philippines.

 The bike was built by Ronell Salvado and James "Erp" Donaire of Tube Garage. For this project they wanted to prove that you can build a Retro Classic Scrambler without busting your wallet. Tuba Garage specializes in metal fabrication, electrical, paint and chassis work. "Tuba Garage" got their name from the Coconut Palm sap wine or "Tuba" which their crew often drinks to celebrate the ending of each successful build project. Just like the amount of work and patience needed to produce Coconut Palm sap wine or "Tuba" you can expect the same work ethic from these self-taught builders every time they have a build project.

 Going into the bike the whole tail end of the original chassis was modified brat style. It was then fitted with re-purposed front and rear tire fenders. To finish it off they installed aftermarket retro styled tail lights paired with low profile LED turn signal lights. The bike also features custom made leather seat (brat style). The whole bike was also custom painted starting with the gas tank, cowling with custom pearl grey. The original rear shocks together with the engine was also repainted to glossy black. "Tuba Garage" also made a custom bullet style exhaust system which is all stainless steel. The team also installed 120/90x17 OKK Dual sport tire (rear) and 110/90x17 OKK Dual sport tires (front). The bike also feature Rizoma low riser handle bars and Rizoma handle bar risers. One of the key features of the bike are the aftermarket retro hand grips paired with bar end LED turn signals. They team also installed powerful LED retro styled headlights to complete the look.

Deus Sea Sider Inspired Honda C70 from Lahug Cebu

For this week we are featuring a Deus Sea Sider inspired Honda C70 (Econo Power) build project by Mr. Andrew Ford Guardo a Freelance Website / Graphic / UI & UX Designer based in Cebu and an emerging Vintage/Retro bike builder from Lahug Cebu. He built this cub for the owner Ms. Sheena Bombarda, who is into Scuba diving, free diving, and snorkeling. He offered to buy the bike from her as it was not running for 6 years already. Andrew told her that he can restore the bike and bring it back to life. She declined to sell it as it was a "family heirloom” but after a few months she contacted him again asking about the best theme to apply to the cub. Andrew showed her the "Deus Sea Sider" cub and Sheena was really excited and enthusiastic about the project.

"I've been into custom bike modification since 2007 but a year earlier than that I was into skeleton custom bike setup which was so mainstream during those time. It was my elder brother Philip who introduced and influenced me on custom bike building, one time he showed me photos of motorcycle expos in Switzerland where a replica of a motorcycle from the movie easy rider movie was exhibited, he loves the Bobber kind of setup and I'm into Vintage Motorcycle Restoration and Cafe Style." Andrew shared during our interview

Going into the bike it was not running when Andrew started working on it. It was leaking oil, rusted and majority of the parts showed a great level of oxidation. During the strip down Andrew noticed that the cub was a camshaft version with no side bearing. He knew that its a bit noisy and it wont last long. So he always followed his mantra to always go for the "long term" approach so he opted to replace it with a compatible head which he got from Ricardo "Titing" of TH Custom Build Cycles.

The Surfboard rack is made of rattan wood. "I haven't seen anyone use this material for vintage/retro build projects I'm sure the majority uses a GI Tube then have it padded with rubber though it doesn't coincide in my “long term” approach idea but it's something “new and unique” with a “traditional touch” Andrew shared during the interview. The Front cargo rack is made of stainless steel tube and palo-china wood, the headlight is from a vintage bicycle headlight which was custom modified with modern materials some other accessories being used are aftermarket parts which were bought online. Some parts are hand built like the handlebar holder which is from an 5mm aluminum plate from a junk shop and which was cut manually by a guitar string (which is mind blowing). The signal light and headlight holders are fabricated from discarded metal flat bars from the junk shop as well.
